Military composition
The Land Forces constitute the core of the Polish Armed Forces - two-thirds of the total number of soldiers serve in the Land Forces. The Land Forces are composed of operational units, territorial defence as well as units and institutions subordinated to the Land Forces Command. In wartime, the operational forces are responsible for carrying out defence and attack activities, while in peacetime, they are involved in training, peace and humanitarian missions. The core of the operational forces is composed of four divisions: 1 st Warsaw Mechanized Division, 11 th Armoured Cavalry Division, 12 th Szczecin Mechanized Division, 16 th Pomeranian Mechanized Division.
The aforementioned divisions encompass general-military brigades (mechanized, armoured) of armoured cavalry and the Podhale riflemen. Other units directly subordinated to the Land Forces Command include: 6 th Air-Assault Brigade, 25 th Air Cavalry Brigade, 2 artillery brigades, 2 engineer brigades and other units of the types of forces as well as command and support units. Their principal task is to support combat activities carried out by operational forces, and to defend particular areas and buildings. TD forces are also responsible for supporting dvii defence units in natural disaster recovery. The Land Forces are composed of the following types of forces: armoured and mechanized forces, air-mobile forces, missile and artillery forces, air defence forces, engineer forces, chemical forces, communications and IT forces.
Apart from the above mentioned forces, the land forces include reconnaissance, logistics as well as electronic and psychological warfare units and subunits. |
The command system
The authority responsible for the functioning of the Land Forces is the Land Forces Command located in Warsaw, formed pursuant to the decision of the Minister of National Defence of 4 April 1997. As an operational level command authority, the Command is in charge of two military districts, a mechanized corps and directly subordinated units. It is arranged in two functional departments:
planning and command department, i.e. the staff;
training department;

Land Forces education system
Military education constitutes an integral part of the Polished Armed Forces. Its basie task is to provide candidates for Professional soldiers with professional education and training, as well as to educate futurę commanders, military specialists as well as reserves and army employees. The Land Forces education centres include:
Communications and IT Training Centre (Zegrze);
Artillery Training Centre (Toruń);
Land Forces Training Centre (Poznań);
Land Forces NCO schools (Poznań, Wrocław, Toruń, Zegrze);
Drivers Training Centres (Grudziąc, Ostróda). |
